We hire team members with similar values and who are interested in engaging in the local community. As well as a positive attitude, good communication, and the desire to work in a team environment are essential for all positions.
As a server at Machina Kitchen & ArtBar you are the first line of defense for upholding quality service and creating the utmost enjoyable experience for the guests. You will take tables, take orders, run food, clean tables, set up tables, and maintain your pace by communicating with your team. Servers are responsible for touching tables within a three-minute period of guest’s arrival and clean up their tables as soon as possible. If they cannot complete these tasks they are expected to ask for help. All servers must be willing to work as a team to help their team succeed. This means if you see that someone needs help, see something is dirty, see something needs to be replenished, or anything else please take the time to so yourself or communicate with your team. Servers are responsible for completing their daily side work, taking care of guests, maintaining cleanliness and organization of the dining room/Artbar dining space bathrooms and server stations, running food, curating the guest experience, planning and curating the reservation book, communicating with the team in the kitchen, communicating with hosts and kitchen runners, communicating with their lead server, and anything else they may be asked to do. We understand everyone has bad days, but there is an expectation that a server can maintain a positive attitude during service. If you are having a bad day or need a mental health day, please communicate with the lead server or the ownership team. Servers are expected to follow Machina’s dress and hygiene policies within our handbook. Any money given to a server directly from their tables is the server’s money to do so as they choose. If you tip out any other employees or participate in tip pooling that is up to your digression. Servers directly report to the lead server first but may be asked to do tasks by the bar manager, sous chef, or owners as needed. Servers must be able to lift 50 lbs.
As a bartender at Machina Kitchen & ArtBar you are responsible to uphold high quality, consistent service and beverages to our guests. Machina’s ArtBar is an award-winning craft cocktail bar: we always use fresh ingredients, make things from scratch, use jigger pours and proper technique for consistency, research, learn, are creative, and use careful judgement on each spirit we choose for our drinks. As a bartender at Machina you will be trained by our bar manager, you are expected to take your training one step at a time and ask questions along the way. We expect everyone will have different levels of experience and it is important that we are all open to learning more and can work as a team. At Machina stories are important, you will be asked to learn the stories of the drinks you are serving as well as about the artists in our galleries, the food, and our space to enlighten customers. You will be expected to learn how to make recommendations and creations based on customers tastes and asks. We also expect that you will build a rapport with our guests to create a positive atmosphere which includes getting to know and remembering our regulars. After you are fully trained there will be times you may be the only bartender on shift. You may be asked to lock up the restaurant and the last person out at the end of the night. Each Bartender always has the responsibility of identifying the signs of intoxication and carding any customer that looks like they are under the age of 30. Bartenders must serve liquor responsibly, in moderation, and in adherence to NH liquor commission rules and regulations and record incidents when they occur. You must feel comfortable cutting a customer off when needed. Each front-of-house staff member will be TEAM certified through the NH liquor commission. You will be expected to have a high level of cleanliness! This includes cleaning vessels, glasses, bar utensils, service stations and the bar area regularly. You will prepare the service area which includes creating the syrups, juices, infusions, and ice in a food-safe way. You will be expected to feel comfortable handling money, recording and balancing cash receipts, process payments, and open and maintain tabs throughout the night. All bartenders must be willing to work as a team to help their team succeed. This means if you see that someone needs help, see something is dirty, see something needs to be replenished, or anything else please take the time to so yourself or communicate with your team. You will have similar expected duties as our servers such as: taking tables, taking orders, running food, cleaning tables, setting up tables, and maintaining your pace by communicating with your team.
